When exporting your document, Fireworks exports individual files for all the slices. It also generates all the HTML and JavaScript code that you need to display the document in a Web browser. Fireworks makes it easy to export the images, HTML, and JavaScript code to incorporate into a site you are creating and managing with Macromedia Dreamweaver.
1 | Choose File > Export. Exporting the document creates a series of image files for each slice and an HTML file. To make it easy for you to remove these files later, export them to a new folder.
|
2 | Choose a location, click the New Folder button, and name the folder. Make sure the new folder's name appears at the top of the dialog box. |
3 | Accept the default for base name. Fireworks uses this name for the HTML file that it creates and as the base for naming all the resulting GIF and JPEG files that are created due to the slicing. |
You can modify the way Fireworks names files, as well as set other properties of the exported HTML, by clicking the Setup button. For more information, see Exporting an image.
4 | Choose Use Slice Objects from the Slicing pop-up menu. This makes sure that all the buttons, behaviors, and optimizations function when displayed in a browser. |
5 | Choose Dreamweaver 3 from the Style pop-up menu. This creates HTML code that is optimized for use in Dreamweaver 3. |
6 | Make sure that the Location pop-up menu is set to Same Directory. This option lets you specify where you want the HTML file saved in relation to the exported images. You can even copy all the HTML to the Clipboard to paste it directly into a Dreamweaver file. |
7 | Click Save (Windows) or Export (Macintosh) to export the files. The HTML file can now be viewed in a browser or opened in Dreamweaver for further modification. |
If desired, preview the document in a Web browser to see how it looks and to test the buttons you created.
8 | Open a Web browser, choose File > Open > Page in Navigator (Netscape Navigator) or File > Open (Microsoft Internet Explorer), and select the HTML file you exported. |
You can also open a browser directly from Fireworks by choosing File > Preview in Browser and choosing a browser. If one isn't listed, choose Set Browser to add a primary and secondary browser to the list.
9 | After testing the exported HTML, return to Fireworks and close the file. |
